DEATH OF ALDERMAN ROBERT RAWLINSON
The death took place on Saturday night at his residence in Grafton Road, New Brighton, of
Alderman Robert Rawlinson, a Wallasey magistrate and an ex Mayor of the borough.

Mr Rawlinson, who was in his seventy-eighth year, leaves a widow, four sons and three daughters. Born on April 3rd. 1859, Alderman Rawlinson  entered the Wallasey Town Council in 1920 as a representative of Upper Brighton Ward. He was elected unopposed on the non-party ticket and three years later he was returned as a Liberal with a majority of 21 over the Conservative candidate.

He was made an alderman on November 9th the same year (1923) and became Mayor a year later. He was re-elected alderman in 1929 and in 1935 at the end of each six year term of office.

Service For Poor

Alderman Rawlinson, who was appointed to the magistracy in 1921, served as Chairman of the Birkenhead Board of Guardians and previously of the Finance Committee of that body. Later, he rendered especially good service on the Wallasey Public Assistance Committee.
A prominent Freemason, he was Wallasey's only representative in Grand Lodge, being given the rank of Post Grand Standard Bearer and later that of Grand Deacon. He held the Provincial Lodge rank of P.P.G.S.W.(Cheshire) and was also assistant Grand Master of the province.
He was initiated in St. John's Lodge No. 673 as far back as February 1883 and became Worshipful Master of that Lodge six years later. He was afterwards a founder and Worshipful
Master of the United Temperance Lodge (No 3107) and of the Manor Lodge ((No 4204) being the first occupant of the chair of this latter lodge in 1920, the year in which he entered  Wallasey Council.

Alderman Rawlinson was a director of Peskett, Rawlinson and Co. Ltd.,
refreshment contractors, Liverpool.
